I don't think I fully appreciated Bronson when he was busy working. But over the years I noticed that I would remember a moment from one of his movies -- leaving the latrine in Dirty Dozen ("You're in the way."), the one word in Hard Times in retort to the chatterbox hustler James Coburn: "Dumb." Sometimes he could get caught doing very lousy work (the tragic ending of Magnificent Seven, or some line readings in Death Wish), but Bronson had a very interesting manner, a raw-boned delivery and approach that matched his looks perfectly. He had a touch of the poet to him.
